Building Integrated Concentrating Photovoltaic (BICPV) systems

    An effective way to improve the performance of such systems is to concentrate the incoming light. Concentrating Photovoltaic (CPV) systems make use of optical components which concentrate the incoming sunlight and focus it on solar cells. The concentrated light reaching the solar cell magnifies the production of energy several times. These optical components often referred to as concentrators, make use of reflective/ refractive principles of optics, individually or in combination for concentrating the sunlight. Incorporating the concentrating photovoltaics into any part of the building architecture is referred to as Building Integrated Concentrating Photovoltaics (BICPV). The talk will showcase different designs of such systems developed in the past few years and what we are looking in the near future.
