Supporting energy system decision making towards a sustainable future

  • 2016-08-29 Belfast workshopIn this talk Xiaoyu will give a brief overview of his interdisciplinary research in a number of different but related areas with an overarching aim of making our energy system more sustainable. These areas can be broadly clustered around four themes: Energy Systems, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), Nexus and Resources. Topics that are relevant for the workshop will be covered, including transport energy and emission modelling, LCA of energy and transport technologies, spatio-temporal dynamical LCA methods, ecosystem service impacts of energy systems, water-energy-food nexus, raw material extraction and resource recovery from wastes. The key conclusion from his research is that sustainability of the energy system is a very complex issue and holistic thinking and interdisciplinary collaboration are needed to better support decision making.
