Gillian Menzies

    Dr. Gillian Menzies is an Associate Professor of Environment and Climate Change in the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Building Design, Heriot Watt University, in Edinburgh. She has been in post since 2000, has a track record of research in Life Cycle Assessment and sustainability, and is Senior Director of Studies for the Architectural Engineering Disciple. Gillian gained a Ph.D. in Life Cycle Assessment in 1998, and has more than 30 peer reviewed academic and technical publications in this field since 1996. She is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Environmentalist, Chartered Energy Manager, member of the Energy Institute, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant. Gillian has an academic background in energy engineering, commercial consultancy experience of computerised building simulation, energy analysis, and post occupancy evaluation; and an ongoing passion for building sustainability. Since 2008 her research has increasingly included social and policy related energy projects with focus on fuel poverty, overheating, social-LCA, communication strategies and whole life costing.
